Vernon, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F started looking into a deadly crash involving one vehicle on LA 146 close to Nig-Dorsey Road around 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024. The victim was identified as 82-year-old Geneva Williams from Chatham, Louisiana.

According to the initial investigation, a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by a 37-year-old woman named Brittney Williams was heading east on LA-146. It is still unclear why the vehicle veered off the road to the right and collided with a tree.

Geneva Williams, who was wearing a seatbelt and sitting in the front seat of the Nissan, was declared deceased at the crash site. Brittney Williams, who was also wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for medical care. While impairment is not believed to be a factor, standard toxicology samples were taken for testing. The cause of the crash is still being looked into by officials.

Troopers want to emphasize the importance of making responsible decisions while driving. It’s crucial to avoid driving under the influence, when tired, or distracted. Always obey traffic laws and make sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seatbelt. While crashes may not always be avoidable, taking these simple precautions can make a significant difference in surviving a crash.

So far in 2024, Troop F has investigated 10 deadly crashes, leading to 11 fatalities.
