St. Mary Parish, Louisiana – At around 1:15 p.m. on November 22, 2023, Louisiana State Police Troop I received a report of a collision involving two vehicles on US Highway 90 Business (LA-182) near Beauregard Road in St. Mary Parish. The collision resulted in the tragic death of Kristin Michele Myers, aged 33, of Morgan City, Louisiana.

According to LSP, initial findings indicate that Myers was driving a 2017 Kia Forte westbound on LA-182, following behind a 2019 F250 traveling in the same direction. For reasons that are still being looked into, Myers’ vehicle collided with the back of the F250 as it slowed down to make a left turn. Myers sustained critical injuries and was taken to a local hospital where she later passed away due to her injuries. It is currently unknown whether Myers was restrained at the time of the crash.

The driver of the F250 was wearing their seat belt and did not suffer any injuries.

There is no evidence at this time to suggest that Myers was impaired during the incident; however, samples have been taken for analysis with results pending. On the other hand, tests showed no alcohol in the system of the F250 driver and no signs of impairment were observed.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing. LSP urges all motorists to make responsible decisions when operating vehicles by avoiding driving under impairment, fatigue, or distraction and ensuring that all occupants are properly restrained. While not all crashes can be survived, taking these simple precautions can often determine whether someone lives or dies.

Troop I has investigated 46 fatal crashes resulting in 51 deaths so far in 2023.
