Gretna, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred early Thursday morning on the upper level of US 90B near Stumpf Boulevard in Jefferson Parish. The incident claimed the life of 24-year-old Shamond Jacobs of Terrytown, Louisiana.

According to preliminary reports from Troop B investigators, the crash happened just before 5:00 a.m. on April 17, 2025. Jacobs was walking in the eastbound lanes of the elevated highway while wearing dark clothing, making it difficult for drivers to see him in the pre-dawn hours.

Authorities report that a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound struck Jacobs as it proceeded along the upper level of US 90B. Emergency responders pronounced Jacobs dead at the scene due to the severe injuries he sustained.

The driver of the Chevrolet, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, did not suffer any injuries. As is standard procedure in fatal crashes, investigators collected toxicology samples, though results are still pending analysis.

Louisiana State Police emphasize that pedestrians should never walk on interstate systems, elevated highways, or in the lanes of any roadway. Additionally, anyone walking near roadways, especially during low-light conditions, should wear brightly colored clothing or reflective accessories to improve visibility.
