Oakdale, Louisiana – A tragic single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 372 in Allen Parish, Louisiana, has claimed the life of 21-year-old Michael Hicks of Mexico, Missouri. The incident occurred on August 30, 2024, around 4:00 a.m., when Hicks, a pedestrian, was struck by a 2011 Toyota Corolla.

According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop D, Hicks was walking west across LA Hwy 372, wearing dark clothing, when he stepped into the path of the southbound Toyota Corolla. Despite the driver’s evasive maneuvers, the car’s front bumper struck Hicks.

Hicks was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance but succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Toyota, who was properly restrained, sustained no injuries. Standard toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Louisiana State Police are urging pedestrians to exercise caution when walking on highways, especially in low-light conditions. Troopers recommend walking against the flow of traffic and only crossing at designated crossings such as intersections. Additionally, they advise pedestrians to wear bright or reflective clothing to increase their visibility to motorists.
