Covington, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L started investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 12 near U.S. Hwy 190 in St. Tammany Parish around 1:00 p.m. on February 26. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the death of 47-year-old David Brassieur from Madisonville, Louisiana.

The initial investigation found that the crash happened when Brassieur was walking on Interstate 12 westbound and was hit by a 2022 Mercedes-Benz motorhome also traveling westbound on the highway. The reasons for the collision are still being looked into.

Brassieur was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, who was wearing a seatbelt, was unharmed.

Toxicology samples were collected from both Brassieur and the driver for further investigation.

Louisiana State Police says that pedestrians and drivers are encouraged to stay alert while on the road and be aware of their surroundings. By following basic safety measures, pedestrian-related accidents can be prevented. Pedestrians should wear bright or reflective clothing and avoid walking on the road in dimly lit areas. It is important for pedestrians to understand that drivers may not see them, especially at night. Pedestrians should only cross roads in well-lit, designated areas and always walk against the flow of traffic. These simple precautions can help improve pedestrian safety.
