Scott, Louisiana - At around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024, Louisiana State Police Troop I received a report of a crash between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on Interstate 10 heading west near mile marker 96, west of Scott, Louisiana. Unfortunately, the crash resulted in the death of Michael L. Grady, a 42-year-old from Waco, Texas.

The first examination showed that Grady was driving his Motorcycle in the left lane going west on I-10 when he collided with the back of a Nissan Murano, also traveling west in the left lane. The collision caused both vehicles to veer off the road. As a result, Grady was thrown off the motorcycle. After the initial crash, there was another crash involving several other motorcyclists near the area.

It is unclear whether Grady was wearing a helmet when he got into the crash. He was taken to a nearby hospital but unfortunately did not survive his injuries. The driver of the Nissan was unharmed.

The other motorcyclists in a different crash were also taken to the hospital, but their injuries were not life-threatening.

It is not clear if Grady was impaired, but a toxicology sample was taken for testing. The driver of the Nissan was unhurt and provided a breath sample that showed no alcohol in their system.

Troopers are advising motorcyclists of all ages and skill levels to be extra careful while riding and make sure they are properly prepared and trained for different riding conditions. By enrolling in accredited training programs, riders can learn about safe riding practices such as being visible, wearing appropriate safety gear, employing effective riding techniques, and understanding their motorcycle's capabilities and limitations. These safety practices can help motorcyclists prevent crashes and minimize injuries in case of a collision. More information on helmet regulations and rider safety courses can be found at www.LSP.ORG/motorcycle.html.

Troop I has looked into four deadly crashes that led to the deaths of four individuals so far in 2024.
