Livingston, Louisiana – A tragic crash occurred on August 22, 2024, in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, resulting in the death of 46-year-old Jeremy Herrin of Maurepas, Louisiana. The incident took place at approximately 5:30 a.m. on LA 444 at the intersection of LA 63.

According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop A, Herrin was driving a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on LA 444 when a 2011 Nissan Frontier, traveling eastbound, failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a left turn onto LA 63. The Nissan struck the passenger side of the motorcycle, causing Herrin to be ejected from the vehicle.

Herrin, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was properly restrained and uninjured. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but standard toxicology samples will be taken and submitted for analysis.

Louisiana State Police urge motorists to always make responsible decisions while behind the wheel, avoiding impaired, fatigued, or distracted driving. Additionally, riders should utilize proper safety equipment, such as Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved helmets, which can significantly decrease the risk of traumatic brain injury.

Motorcyclists are encouraged to take an approved motorcycle safety course to learn more about helmet guidelines and rider safety. More information on these resources can be found at the Louisiana State Police website (www.lsp.org/services/training/motorcycle-safety/).
