Livingston, Louisiana – At around 11 am during the morning of May 19, 2024, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A arrived at the scene of a fatal two-car crash on LA 63 at Grand Lake Blvd, resulting in the death of 42-year-old Billy Ray Collins from Hammon, Louisiana.
Initial findings showed that Collins was riding a 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle at a high speed on LA 63 heading south, while a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek was heading north on the same road trying to turn left onto Grand Lake Blvd. The Harley Davidson collided with the Subaru for reasons that are still being looked into.
Collins, who had a helmet on during the crash, suffered severe injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Louisiana State Police indicated that it is unclear if they were under the influence of any substances, but tests will be conducted to determine this. The driver of the Subaru was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured in the crash. The incident is currently being looked into by authorities.
Troopers want to emphasize the significance of using the right safety gear, specifically DOT-approved helmets. Wearing an approved helmet correctly can reduce the risk of traumatic brain injuries. Troopers also recommend that all riders participate in an approved motorcycle safety course.
