Calhoun, Louisiana – A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Louisiana claimed the life of a 72-year-old Monroe resident Sunday evening, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the crash site near milepost 101 on eastbound Interstate 20 shortly before 9:00 p.m. on April 6, 2025. The incident resulted in the death of Alford Gallagher of Monroe, Louisiana who was a rear seat passenger in the vehicle.
According to the preliminary investigation, 69-year-old Patrick Gallagher was driving a 2013 GMC Acadia eastbound when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and collided with a tree.
Alford Gallagher, who was properly wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Patrick Gallagher, was also properly restrained and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
As part of standard procedure in fatal crashes, investigators collected routine toxicology samples that will be submitted for analysis. Louisiana State Police Troop F continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
