Louisiana Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash on Jefferson Highway Claims Life of Metairie Woman

Jefferson, Louisiana – A tragic hit-and-run crash on Jefferson Highway in Jefferson Parish claimed the life of a 37-year-old Metairie, Louisiana woman, Sue Ella Cechman, on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The incident occurred around 11:45 pm near Claiborne Court, according to the Louisiana State Police Troop B.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Cechman was attempting to cross Jefferson Highway at Claiborne Court when an unknown vehicle traveling west on the highway struck her. The impact caused severe injuries, and Cechman was rushed to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The suspect vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene, leaving the victim to suffer fatal injuries.

As part of the ongoing investigation, standard toxicology samples were obtained from Cechman and submitted for analysis. While the make, model, and exact color of the suspect vehicle are unknown, troopers believe it is a dark-colored sedan, possibly blue, with likely damage to the front.

The Louisiana State Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward and contact Troop B at (504) 471-2775. Those who wish to remain anonymous can report suspicious activity on the la-safe.org website. The authorities are counting on the public’s help to gather all possible information about the vehicle that fled the scene and bring the perpetrator to justice.
