Franklin Parish, Louisiana – A tragic two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 130 near Turner Neal Road on Wednesday, September 3, 2024, claimed the life of 20-year-old Ethan Cottingham of Winnsboro, Louisiana. The incident occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. when Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, 69-year-old James Fowler was driving a 1998 Mack dump truck westbound on LA Hwy 130. At the same time, Cottingham was traveling eastbound in a 2022 Ford F-150. For reasons still under investigation, the Mack dump truck veered left, crossed the centerline, and entered the path of the Ford F-150, resulting in a head-on collision in the eastbound lane.

According to Louisiana State Police, Cottingham, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fowler, who was properly restrained, escaped the crash without injury. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the incident. In the meantime, Troopers are reminding motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic laws to prevent such tragedies. “Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted; ensure every occupant is properly restrained,” they emphasize. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
