East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana – In the early hours of Friday morning, Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a deadly single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 67 at Idlewild Road, resulting in the death of a Clinton, Louisiana, resident. The incident occurred just before 3:45 a.m., claiming the life of 35-year-old John Collins of Clinton, Louisiana.
According to the preliminary investigation, Collins was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro southbound on LA 67 at a high rate of speed. Authorities report that as Collins approached a right-hand curve, he failed to properly navigate it, causing the vehicle to exit the roadway to the left. The Camaro then collided with a tree, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle.
Officials noted that Collins was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. As a result, he was ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel.
While impairment is not currently suspected as a contributing factor in this crash, troopers collected a toxicology sample from Collins in accordance with standard investigative procedures. The sample will be submitted for detailed analysis. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident remains ongoing.
