Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana – At around 4:50 a.m. on November 19, 2023, Louisiana State Police Troop B began looking into a fatal crash involving two vehicles on LA 23 near Captain Larry Lane in Plaquemines Parish. The crash resulted in the death of Michael Carr, aged 32, from Baytown, Texas.
Initial findings indicated that Peter Thomason, aged 48, from Devine, Texas was driving a 2015 Jeep Cherokee south on LA 23 near Captain Larry Lane. At the same time, Carr was driving a 2016 Scion south on LA 23 just ahead of the Jeep. For reasons still being investigated, Thomason started to move into the left lane but then returned to the right lane and hit the back of the Scion. The impact caused the Scion to veer off the road and collide with a utility pole’s concrete base.
Despite wearing a seatbelt, Carr sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. A passenger in the Scion suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
LSP indicated that during the investigation at the scene, Thomason showed signs of impairment and provided a breath sample indicating that his Blood Alcohol Concentration exceeded the legal limit. As a result, Thomason was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injuring, and reckless operation before being booked into Plaquemines Parish jail.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
