Covington, Louisiana – A fatal crash involving a pedestrian occurred early Wednesday morning on US Hwy 190 in St. Tammany Parish, resulting in the death of a 38-year-old man.

According to the Louisiana State Police Troop L, the incident took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. on November 6, 2024, near Park Place Drive. The victim, identified as Jonathan H. Janise of Denham Springs, Louisiana was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Janise had entered the eastbound lanes of US Hwy 190 from the median when he was struck by a 2014 Peterbilt 389 truck. The truck, which was traveling eastbound on the highway, collided with Janise in the center lane.

The driver of the Peterbilt, who was restrained with a seatbelt, was uninjured in the crash. Louisiana State Police reported that impairment was not suspected on the part of the truck driver, who provided a breath sample of 0.000g% – indicating no presence of alcohol. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Janise for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

The Louisiana State Police Troop L is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the reasons why the Peterbilt struck Janise.
