Red River Parish, Louisiana – A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of December 16, when a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 71 near Hughes Road in Louisiana claimed the life of 29-year-old Douglas Ates of Coushatta, Louisiana.
According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop G, Ates was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Lumina southbound on U.S. Highway 71 when his vehicle exited the roadway, overturned, and collided with a tree. The reasons behind Ates’ vehicle leaving the road are still under investigation.
Ates, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 15-year-old juvenile, who was also unrestrained in the front passenger seat, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Louisiana State Police reported that impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This incident remains under investigation by the authorities.
