Ruston, Louisiana – A single-vehicle fatal crash on U.S. Hwy 167 near Harper Bottom Road on Sunday, August 18, 2024, resulted in the death of 48-year-old Deshundra Johnson. The incident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. when Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation, Johnson was driving a white Nissan Altima southbound on U.S. Hwy 167 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. In an attempt to regain control, Johnson steered the vehicle to the left, but overcorrected, causing the Nissan to cross both the south and northbound lanes of the highway and strike a tree on the right northbound shoulder.
Unfortunately, Johnson, who was not properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. The crash remains under investigation.
The Louisiana State Police would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists of the importance of safe driving practices. Driving impaired, fatigued, or distracted can have devastating consequences. It is crucial to follow all traffic laws, ensure every occupant is properly restrained, and avoid driving when tired or under the influence.
While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions can often mean the difference between life and death. By making responsible decisions behind the wheel, drivers can significantly reduce the risk of fatal crashes.
