New Iberia, Louisiana – A single-vehicle fatality crash on Louisiana Highway 86 near Marshfield Road in Iberia Parish has resulted in the death of 35-year-old Brenton Robertson of Saint Martinville, Louisiana. The incident occurred on June 20, 2024, shortly after 7:00 p.m., and is currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop I.
Preliminary findings indicate that Robertson was driving a 2012 Dodge Durango westbound on LA Hwy 86 when, for reasons still unknown, the vehicle veered off the roadway to the right and struck a tree. According to Louisiana State Police, Robertson was unrestrained at the time of the cresh and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A standard toxicology sample was collected from Robertson and submitted for analysis, which may provide further insight into the circumstances leading up to the crash.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of seatbelt use. According to statistics, wearing a seatbelt can dramatically reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash.
