Franklinton, Louisiana – A two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 25 near Cypress Road in Washington Parish in Louisiana has resulted in the tragic loss of life of 51-year-old Teresa Brown-Garcia of Jayess, Mississippi. The incident occurred on September 5, shortly after 8:30 p.m., and is currently under investigation by Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L.

Preliminary findings suggest that Brown-Garcia’s 2015 Kia Forte was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 25 when it veered off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail. The Kia then re-entered the roadway and crossed into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2020 Ford Taurus. Brown-Garcia, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, who was properly restrained, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.

According to statistics, properly wearing a seatbelt can dramatically reduce the risk of injury or death in a crash. Louisiana law requires all vehicle occupants, regardless of seating position, to remain buckled up at all times.
