Covington, Louisiana – A tragic two-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 21 near LA Hwy 1083 in St. Tammany Parish on July 26 resulted in the loss of life of 25-year-old Jonathan Brister of Covington, Louisiana. The incident occurred shortly after 10:15 a.m. when Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, Brister was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze northbound on LA Hwy 21 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound head-on. Brister, who was unrestrained, was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, who was properly restrained, sustained moderate injuries and was also transported to a local hospital. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of seat belt safety. According to statistics, properly wearing a seat belt dramatically reduces the chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires all vehicle occupants, regardless of seating position, to remain buckled up at all times. By wearing a seat belt, individuals can significantly reduce their risk of injury or death in the event of a crash.
