Franklinton, Louisiana - A single-vehicle fatal crash occurred on LA Hwy 10 near Twin Pines Road in Washington Parish yesterday afternoon, claiming the life of 70-year-old Leon Curry Jr. of Franklinton, Louisiana. The incident is currently under investigation by Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L.

According to the initial investigation, the crash took place around 3:00 p.m. when Curry's 2004 GMC Sierra veered off the roadway and struck a culvert while traveling westbound on LA Hwy 10. The reason behind the vehicle's departure from the road remains unclear and is still being investigated.

Tragically, Curry was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries as a result. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from Curry as part of the ongoing investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, statistics have consistently shown that properly wearing a seatbelt dramatically reduces the chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
