Louisiana Fatal Crash on LA Highway 8 Claims Life of Unrestrained Driver

Rapides Parish, Louisiana - A one-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 8 near Lena on November 3, 2024, resulted in the death of a 60-year-old man. According to the Louisiana State Police Troop E, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m.

James W. Bennett of Flatwoods, Louisiana, the driver of a 1992 GMC vehicle, was traveling west on Louisiana Highway 8 when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled down the ditch embankment, striking a tree. The initial investigation revealed that Bennett was unrestrained at the time of the crash. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis as part of the ongoing investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities are working to determine the factors that contributed to the incident.
