Plaquemine, Louisiana — A single-vehicle crash on LA 77 near Jase Street claimed the life of a Patterson, Louisiana, man on May 22, 2025, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A. The incident occurred shortly before 3:00 p.m., leading to an emergency response and an ongoing investigation.

The preliminary report from state troopers indicates that 31-year-old Sky Valenciano was traveling southbound in a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer. For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with a utility pole. The impact resulted in significant damage to the vehicle.

Investigators noted that Valenciano was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. As a result, he was ejected from the vehicle. Troopers stress that being unrestrained in a crash greatly increases the risk of ejection, which is often associated with more severe injuries or fatalities. Valenciano was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

A front seat passenger, who was properly restrained, sustained only minor injuries.

At this time, Louisiana State Police report that impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash. However, as part of standard procedure, a toxicology sample was collected from Valenciano and will be analyzed to confirm whether any substances were present.

Louisiana State Police urge all drivers and passengers to make safe decisions behind the wheel. Authorities emphasize the critical importance of always wearing a seat belt, avoiding distractions such as mobile phones, and never driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
