Violet, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on LA 46 near Francke Place on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, resulted in the tragic loss of life of 23-year-old Kerry Guerra Jr. of St. Bernard, Louisiana. The incident occurred around 8:30 pm, involving a 2001 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck and a 2013 Dodge Ram.
According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop B, Guerra was driving the Chevrolet eastbound on LA 46, approaching Francke Place, when he struck the rear of the Dodge, which was traveling in the same direction. The Chevrolet then veered off the road and collided with a tree.
Guerra, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Dodge, who was properly restrained, escaped uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained for analysis.
Louisiana State Police are urging the public to remember the importance of adhering to speed limits and wearing seatbelts, which can greatly reduce the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash. Speeding increases the likelihood of losing control and diminishes one’s ability to react to hazards, while buckling up before driving and following traffic regulations can make a crucial difference in keeping drivers and passengers safe.
