Denham Springs, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash occurred on Friday, August 30, 2024, near the intersection of LA 16 and LA 1026, resulting in the tragic death of 24-year-old Curtis Cobbs of Denham Springs, Louisiana. The incident, which took place shortly before 10:00 am, also left the passenger in Cobbs’ vehicle in critical condition.
According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop A, Cobbs was driving a 2012 Honda Civic northbound on LA 16 when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle crossed the center line, began to rotate, and entered the path of a 2012 Ford F-150 traveling southbound on LA 16. The Ford, driven by an unidentified individual, struck the right rear of the Honda, resulting in severe injuries to Cobbs and his passenger.
Both Cobbs and his passenger were wearing seatbelts, but the severity of the crash was too great, and Cobbs was pronounced dead at a local hospital. His passenger remains in critical condition. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained and uninjured. As part of the ongoing investigation, routine toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.
Wearing seatbelts correctly can significantly improve one’s chances of survival and reduce injury severity in the event of a crash. It is crucial to ensure that the seatbelt is correctly positioned across the hips and shoulders, and that children are securely fastened in appropriate car seats. Additionally, distracted and inattentive driving remains a leading cause of crashes in our state, and taking simple precautions and adhering to all traffic laws can greatly enhance road safety.
