Lakeshore, Louisiana – A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on LA-139 near Curve Drive in Lakeshore, Louisiana. According to the Louisiana State Police, the crash happened shortly before 10:00 p.m. and involved a 2013 Ford Edge traveling northbound on the highway.
The preliminary investigation revealed that 31-year-old James Zeren of Monroe, Louisiana was walking in the same direction as the vehicle, also in the northbound lane of LA-139. The driver of the Ford Edge, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was uninjured. Although impairment is not suspected, routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. The incident remains under investigation by the Louisiana State Police.
To minimize the risk of crashes, pedestrians are advised to walk against the flow of traffic, allowing them to see oncoming vehicles and react accordingly. Additionally, wearing brightly colored clothing or reflective gear can significantly enhance visibility for drivers, especially at night.
