Rapides Parish, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on I-49 northbound near Woodworth, Louisiana, resulted in the tragic death of 32-year-old Miguel Castillo of Longview, Texas, on September 12, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

According to the Louisiana State Police Troop E, the initial investigation revealed that Castillo’s 2008 Nissan failed to slow down and rear-ended a 2019 Freightliner, also traveling northbound on I-49. Following the impact, the Nissan exited the roadway, entered the median, and struck the cable barriers.

Castillo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Freightliner, who was wearing a seatbelt, escaped without any injuries. A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis to determine if any substances played a role in the crash.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, authorities are highlighting the importance of staying alert and focused while driving. Distracted and inattentive driving continues to be the leading cause of crashes in the state, and the Louisiana State Police are urging all motorists to remain vigilant behind the wheel.
