Ferriday, Louisiana – A single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 near Louisiana Highway 3232 resulted in the death of 51-year-old Mark Carney of Monterey, Louisiana on Saturday afternoon. The incident, which occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m., is currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop E.
According to preliminary findings, Carney was traveling westbound in a 2008 Toyota Tacoma when his vehicle veered off the roadway for reasons that remain unclear. The pickup truck subsequently collided with a building located adjacent to the highway. Investigators noted that Carney was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the building was unoccupied when the crash occurred, and no additional injuries were reported. While impairment is not currently suspected as a contributing factor, troopers have collected standard toxicology samples for laboratory analysis, following protocol for fatal crash investigations.
Louisiana State Police reminded motorists about the critical importance of safe driving practices in their statement. They emphasized avoiding impaired, fatigued, or distracted driving—all factors that significantly increase crash risk.
