Duson, Louisiana — Louisiana State Police Troop I are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle that occurred just before 4 a.m. on May 11, 2025. The incident took place on Interstate 10, east of Louisiana Highway 95, and resulted in the death of Oscar Morales, a 61-year-old resident of South Houston, Texas.

According to preliminary reports from Louisiana State Police, Morales was driving a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer heading eastbound on Interstate 10. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway to the left, entered the median, and struck a cable barrier—a safety feature designed to prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic. The impact caused the truck to overturn, resulting in fatal injuries to Morales, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities collected routine toxicology samples, which is standard procedure in fatal crashes, to determine if alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident. The results of these tests are pending as the investigation continues.

Louisiana State Police continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the crash, including possible driver fatigue, weather conditions, and road factors. Commercial motor vehicle crashes often require detailed analysis due to the size and weight of these vehicles, which can make them more difficult to control in emergency situations.

Interstate 10 is a major transportation artery for both passenger and commercial vehicles, and incidents involving large trucks can result in significant traffic disruptions and pose increased risks for severe outcomes.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and no additional injuries were reported.
