Port Allen, Louisiana – A devastating two-vehicle crash on LA 415 near Commercial Drive in West Baton Rouge Parish claimed the life of 20-year-old Jada Bergeron of Mamou, Louisiana in the early hours of June 29, 2024.
According to Louisiana State Police, the crash occurred when a 2015 Kia Rio, driven by 37-year-old Carlos Thomas, turned left onto a private driveway, crossing the path of a 2012 Nissan Altima traveling southbound on LA 415. The resulting collision saw the front of the Nissan impact the side of the Kia, resulting in fatal injuries to Bergeron, who was an unrestrained front passenger in the Altima.
Bergeron was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver of the Altima sustained minor injuries. The front passenger of the Kia, who was properly restrained, was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Thomas was taken into custody and booked into the West Baton Rouge jail on charges of Improper Lane Usage, Negligent Homicide, and Vehicular Negligent Injuring.
The investigation is ongoing, with toxicology samples to be analyzed to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash.
