Raceland, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police Troop C initiated an investigation into a significant collision involving two vehicles on U.S. Highway 90, near Louisiana Highway 182, east of Raceland, Louisiana just past 2:00 p.m. on October 11, 2023. Tragically, the crash resulted in the death of Jenny Duet, a 73-year-old resident of Golden Meadow, Louisiana.

According to the initial investigation, Duet was driving a 2017 Nissan Sentra in a curve while heading west on U.S. Hwy 90. Simultaneously, a 2022 Ram 2500 was traveling in the opposite direction. The Nissan, for reasons still being investigated, veered off the road to the left, crossed the center median, and entered the eastbound lanes where it was hit by the Ram.

Despite being properly restrained, Duet sustained severe injuries and was taken to a hospital outside the area for medical care. The driver and passenger in the Ram were also properly restrained but only suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

Later on, Troop C received the notification that Duet tragically passed away from her injuries at the hospital.

The authorities collected a sample from Duet for toxicology testing and sent it for analysis. The driver of the Ram did not show any signs of being impaired and agreed to a breath test, which did not detect any alcohol.

The investigation into this accident is still ongoing.

Although the investigation into this crash is ongoing, it is of utmost importance to prioritize safe driving for both your own safety and the safety of others on the road. In order to reduce the likelihood of crashes, it is crucial to always adhere to speed limits and abide by traffic regulations. To remain fully attentive while driving, it is advisable to avoid distractions such as texting or using your phone. Lastly, it is essential to never consume alcohol and drive, as impaired driving can result in potentially fatal outcomes.

In 2023, there have been 25 fatal crashes investigated by Troop C, which led to the unfortunate loss of 27 lives.
