Princeton, Louisiana - A single-vehicle crash on Chalmette Loop near Creole Circle in Shreveport has resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman, according to the Louisiana State Police. The incident occurred on December 9, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the scene, where they found a 2012 Nissan SUV had collided with a residence. The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle, driven by Maria Lopez of Shreveport, was traveling north on Chalmette Loop when it exited the roadway for unknown reasons.

Lopez, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the front seat, also unrestrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A 15-year-old juvenile in the rear passenger seat, who was also not wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The residence had one occupant inside, who was fortunately not injured in the incident. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but impairment on the part of Lopez is not suspected at this time. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.

The Louisiana State Police Troop G is continuing to investigate the incident, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward. The department emphasizes the importance of wearing a seatbelt while driving or riding in a vehicle, as it can significantly reduce the risk of injury or death in the event of a crash.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and the potential consequences of failing to follow traffic laws. As the investigation continues, the Louisiana State Police will work to determine the exact cause of the crash and provide any necessary updates to the public.
