St. Landry Parish, Louisiana – At approximately 10:30 p.m. on October 11, 2023, Louisiana State Police Troop I received a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Louisiana Highway 105 near Pitre Road in St. Landry Parish. Tragically, the crash resulted in the death of Antoine Watts, a 47-year-old resident of Melville, Louisiana.

According to the initial investigation, Watts was driving a 2018 Ford Fusion heading south on LA 105 while a 2009 Volvo semi-truck was traveling north on the same road. For reasons that are still being investigated, Watts’ vehicle veered across the center line and collided with the Volvo in the northbound lane. The impact caused the Ford to catch fire and become completely engulfed in flames.

Unfortunately, Watts sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was wearing a seat belt and did not suffer any injuries.

LSP indicated that It is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in Watts’ actions leading up to the crash; however, toxicology results are pending analysis to determine if impairment was a factor. On the other hand, breathalyzer tests conducted on the semi-truck driver showed no presence of alcohol in his system and he exhibited no signs of impairment. The investigation into this incident is ongoing as authorities work to establish its cause.
