Louisiana Driver Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash on US 167 After Failing to Yield at an Intersection
Louisiana – On October 25, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that shortly before 8:00 p.m. on October 24, 2022, LSP Troop I was notified of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US Highway 167 and Bourque Road in Lafayette Parish. Tyler Nicole Girard, 27, of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, died in the crash.
Girard was driving a 2017 Hyundai Veloster east on Bourque Road, according to preliminary investigations. At the same time, a 2007 Dodge Dakota was driving south on US 167. Girard failed to yield at the stop sign and drove into the path of the Dodge. Girard’s Hyundai was struck on the driver’s door and drove across the northbound lanes of US 167 before crashing into a shed at a private property in the vicinity.
Despite being restrained, Girard sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office. The Dodge driver was restrained and not harmed.
Toxicology samples from Girard have been sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for processing. The Dodge driver provided a breath sample that indicated no alcohol in his system and no evidence of impairment. This accident is still being investigated.
T-bone incidents, also known as side-impact collisions or broadsides, are among the worst on Louisiana’s roads and highways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), T-bone collisions account for roughly 20% of fatal collisions—more dangerous than any other form of collision. Louisiana State Police would like to encourage motorists to slow down and come to a complete stop in order to guarantee that vehicle blind areas are clear. A few seconds can often be the difference between life and death.
Since the beginning of 2022, LSP Troop I has investigated 46 deadly crashes that have resulted in 52 deaths.
