Louisiana Driver Identified and Arrested in Red River Parish Hit-and-Run Incident

Coushatta, Louisiana – A fatal hit-and-run crash occurred on November 4, 2024, in Coushatta, Louisiana, claiming the life of a 52-year-old Shreveport woman. According to the Louisiana State Police, the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. on Meeks Road, near Jenkins Lease Road.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to the scene and initiated a preliminary investigation. The findings revealed that Natalya Leggio of Shreveport, Louisiana was seated near the edge of the road when an unknown vehicle struck her. Leggio sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle did not contact law enforcement and fled the scene.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, Troop G Troopers contacted the Bureau of Investigations/Bossier Field Office for assistance with the investigation. Through information obtained, investigators identified the vehicle involved in the crash as a 2013 GMC SUV. They determined that 43-year-old William J. Williams of Coushatta was the driver of the vehicle when it struck Leggio.

On November 5, 2024, Williams was arrested and booked into the Red River Parish Detention Center on the charge of felony hit-and-run driving.

Hit-and-run driving is a serious offense that can result in severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment. In Louisiana, a person convicted of felony hit-and-run driving can face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
