Lafourche Parish, Louisiana – On January 10, 2025, Louisiana State Police announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for a driver involved in a fatal crash that occurred in Lafourche Parish on December 17, 2024. The incident claimed the life of 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and has raised serious concerns about reckless driving behavior on state highways.
The investigation began shortly after the crash took place on Louisiana Highway 20 near Perez Lane. According to the police report, a 2023 Dodge Charger, driven by 24-year-old Kyren Lacy of Thibodaux, Louisiana was traveling south on LA Hwy 20 when it alleedly recklessly attempted to overtake several vehicles. Lacy crossed the centerline, entering the northbound lane in a designated no-passing zone. This dangerous maneuver resulted in a series of evasive actions by other drivers.
As Lacy allegledy illegally passed, the driver of a northbound pickup truck had to brake sharply and swerve to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the oncoming Dodge. Following closely behind was a 2017 Kia Cadenza, whose driver swerved left to avoid the pickup but ended up crossing the centerline. This left the Cadenza vulnerable to a head-on collision with a southbound 2017 Kia Sorento, where Hall was a front-seat passenger.
In the wake of the crash, Lacy fled the scene without stopping to offer assistance or notify emergency services. Authorities later confirmed that Hall succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The investigation by Troop C detectives led to the identification of Lacy as the driver of the Dodge Charger.
As a result of the findings, Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Lacy through the Lafourche Parish 17th Judicial Court. Charges filed against him include negligent homicide under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:32, felony hit and run under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:100, and reckless operation of a vehicle under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:99. Currently, Troopers are in communication with Lacy and his legal representatives, urging him to turn himself in to authorities.
The investigation into this tragic incident remains active, with law enforcement dedicated to uncovering all relevant details surrounding the crash.
This case highlights the ongoing issue of reckless driving, particularly in areas marked with no-passing zones, and serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of such dangerous behaviors on the road.
