Louisiana Driver and Passenger Killed in Fiery Early Morning Crash on LA 16
Louisiana – Louisiana State Police has reported a fatal fiery crash on LA 16 that killed two from Geismar. On November 19, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that Troopers with LSP Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle incident on LA 16 at Vincent Road in Livingston Parish shortly after 12:30 a.m. The crash killed 52-year-old Jerome Johnson of Geismar, Louisiana, and 27-year-old Dillon Slaughter, also of Geismar, Louisiana.
According to the preliminary inquiry, Johnson was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla west on LA 16. The Corolla exited the roadway, collided with a telephone pole, and burst into flames for unknown reasons.
Johnson, who was not restrained at the time of the accident, died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Slaughter, who was a backseat passenger and properly restrained, was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries. The identity of the third occupant in the front passenger seat is unclear at this time. It’s also unclear whether or not this passenger was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. A toxicological sample was acquired from the driver as part of the continuing inquiry and will be analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.
While not all accidents can be avoided, statistics show that correctly fitted restraints can considerably lower the chance of injury or death in an accident. Every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, is required by law to be buckled in at all times. Wearing your seat belt correctly is one of the most efficient strategies to save your life and limit injuries in a vehicle accident.
