Louisiana Driver and Motorcyclist Killed in October 23 Crash on LA 70
Louisiana – On October 24, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that on October 23, 2022, soon after 6:30 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop I responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 70 south of Stephensville Elementary School in St. Martin Parish. Shirley A. Chiasson, 83, and Jeffrey A. Holmes, 34, both of Morgan City, Louisiana, were killed in the collision.
Chiasson was traveling eastbound on LA 70 when she drove onto the paved shoulder and attempted a U-turn in the roadway, according to the preliminary inquiry. At the same time, Holmes was riding his 2019 Honda CRF motorcycle east on LA 70. The front of the motorcycle collided with the left side of the eastbound Camry.
Chiasson was unrestrained and died as a result of their injuries. Her front-seat companion was sent to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Holmes was wearing a DOT-approved helmet when he was killed. The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced both drivers deceased at the scene. A standard toxicological sample was collected for analysis, and the crash is still being investigated.
Troopers want to warn motorists that there are numerous factors that contribute to avoidable crashes. Impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and failure to wear a seat belt continue to be key factors in these avoidable accidents. We encourage everyone to make a strategy before getting behind the wheel. P ut your phones down and concentrate on the task of driving. Every ride requires you to slow down and belt up.
