Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is warning motorists to exercise extreme caution as numerous roads in Southeast Louisiana remain blocked due to downed trees, debris, and power lines in the aftermath of Hurricane Francine.

As of this evening, travel is strongly discouraged due to the hazardous conditions, and motorists are advised to refrain from traveling until the roads are deemed safe. DOTD crews will begin conducting roadway assessments and cleanup operations as soon as weather conditions permit.

One of the primary concerns is the presence of non-operational traffic signals, which may be without power due to the hurricane. In these situations, drivers are instructed to treat the intersections as four-way stops, unless law enforcement personnel are directing traffic.

The DOTD is emphasizing the importance of safety, urging motorists to never drive around “road closed” signs or barricades under any circumstances. This warning comes as crews work to clear debris and restore power to affected areas.

In the meantime, motorists are advised to plan alternative routes and avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. By exercising patience and caution, the public can help ensure a safe and efficient recovery process in the wake of Hurricane Francine.
