Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced an extension of intermittent lane closures on Interstate 210 eastbound (I-210 EB), along with new full closures and ongoing restrictions, as crews continue essential lighting repairs damaged by Hurricane Laura.
Project Details and Timeline
The work, part of State Project H.015598—Interstate 210 Hurricane Laura lighting repairs—will impact I-210 EB between Mile Marker 1 and Exit 3. Alternating, intermittent left and right lane closures will now continue through Thursday, May 15, 2025. These closures will occur daily between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.
DOTD officials state that these measures are necessary for the installation of ground-mounted light pole footings. This process is vital to restoring proper highway lighting, which was significantly damaged by the high winds and debris during Hurricane Laura.
Full Closures on I-210 Westbound
In addition to the ongoing eastbound lane closures, I-210 westbound (WB) at Exit 3 will be fully closed during overnight hours on two consecutive nights:
- 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2025, until 4 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025
- 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025, until 4 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025
During these times, construction crews will install concrete barriers, a step required for the next phase of the lighting project. DOTD encourages drivers to plan for alternative routes during these hours to minimize delays.
Continuous Lane Closures and Width Restriction
A continuous left lane closure remains in effect along I-210 WB from Exit 3 to Mile Marker 1, beginning just east of Cove Lane. Importantly, the Cove Lane exit will remain open throughout this period, allowing local access while construction proceeds.
Additionally, an 11-foot width restriction is in place for the duration of the project. This means vehicles wider than 11 feet, such as oversize trucks or certain heavy equipment, will need to seek alternate routes. Width restrictions help to ensure safety for both motorists and construction workers during active roadwork.
