Louisiana DOTD Closes I-210 in Lake Charles Due to Hazardous Winter Conditions

By Calcasieu Staff

Published January 21, 2025

Lake Charles, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the closure of all of Interstate 210 in Lake Charles, from the I-10 Eastbound interchange to the I-10 Westbound interchange. This decision comes as winter weather conditions create hazardous driving environments, leading to concerns for motorist safety.

Winter weather, characterized by freezing temperatures and precipitation, can significantly affect road conditions. The DOTD reported that many roadways in the area have become impassable, posing risks for drivers. As a result, authorities are urging motorists to refrain from traveling unless absolutely necessary. The potential for ice accumulation and snow drifts can lead to dangerous situations, including vehicle crashes and increased response times for emergency services.

Officials indicate that the closure is in effect until further notice, as crews monitor the situation and work to ensure that roadways are safe for travel.
