Lake Charles, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) said work will begin Monday, March 9, 2026, on a multi‑phase construction project on LA 14 between LA 397 and Gerstner Memorial Boulevard in Lake Charles.
The contractor, Siema Construction LLC, will perform drainage improvements, railroad work, patching, milling and overlay operations. The project is expected to be completed by mid‑May 2027, weather permitting.
Traffic impacts
Motorists will encounter alternating lane closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes of LA 14. Closures will be in effect each weekday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A 10‑foot width restriction will apply to the affected lanes throughout the duration of the work. Flaggers will be stationed on site to manage traffic flow and ensure safety.
Project scope
- Drainage work: Installation and repair of storm‑water infrastructure to reduce flooding risk.
- Railroad work: Coordination with rail operators to maintain safe clearances and protect tracks.
- Patching, milling and overlay: Removal of deteriorated pavement (milling) and application of new asphalt layers (overlay) to extend the roadway’s service life.
These activities are necessary to address surface wear and improve water runoff, which can affect road durability and driver safety.
Public guidance
Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes, allow extra travel time and follow flagger instructions. The DOTD will provide updates on its website and through local media as the project progresses.
