Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Revenue will stop accepting cash payments at its Baton Rouge office starting Nov. 1, 2025, marking the final location in the state to implement the cash-free policy.

The change affects taxpayers who visit the Baton Rouge office in person to make payments. The Louisiana Department of Revenue’s regional offices in Alexandria, Lafayette, Monroe, New Orleans, and Shreveport already operate under the same policy, which is part of an ongoing initiative to improve the efficiency of the department’s payment processes.

Starting Nov. 1, the Baton Rouge office will only accept payments by check, credit card, debit card, and money order. Taxpayers who prefer to make payments remotely can use the department’s online payment system at www.revenue.louisiana.gov.

The Louisiana Department of Revenue oversees collection of state taxes, including income tax, sales tax, and various business taxes.

Taxpayers who have previously used cash for their tax payments will need to obtain a money order from a bank or retail location, use a personal or business check, or pay with a credit or debit card.

The statewide rollout of the cash-free policy represents a shift in how Louisiana residents interact with the state’s tax collection agency. Similar policies have been adopted by government agencies across the country as they modernize their payment infrastructure and reduce the costs associated with handling physical currency.

Louisiana taxpayers with questions about acceptable payment methods can visit the department’s website or contact their local office for additional information about the transition.
