Louisiana Department of Health Announces Opening of Temporary Health Unit in Cameron Parish
The Louisiana Department of Health announced on September 2, 2022, that Region 5’s (Southwest) Office of Public Health servicing Cameron Parish will begin operations on September 6 from a temporary location in Cameron.
The Cameron Parish Health Unit will be located at 148 Smith Circle, Room 149 of the Cameron Parish Police Jury facility. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. WIC and immunization programs are available Tuesday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To learn more about available services, contact the health unit at 337-775-5368.
“The staff is excited about returning to Cameron Parish to serve the community,” nursing supervisor Maria Abudiab said.
After Hurricane Laura inflicted extensive damage to the existing site in 2020, renovation plans for the permanent facility are in the works. The health unit has been closed to the public since Laura, however, sanitarian and environmental operations have continued.
Renovations are expected to be completed in the following two to three years.
