Chalmette, Louisiana – On Sunday, May 5, 2024, just after 2:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop B received a report of a collision involving two vehicles on LA 46 at Jacob Drive. Sadly, the crash resulted in the deaths of Brandon Harvey, 38, and his passenger, Crystal Williamson, 37, both from Chalmette, Louisiana.
The initial investigation showed that Harvey was behind the wheel of a 2015 Acura TLX heading east on LA 46, near Jacob Drive. Simultaneously, a 2012 GMC Terrain driven by 23-year-old Haziel Valle from Silverhill, Alabama, was heading west on LA 46 at Jacob Drive.
The GMC unexpectedly veered into the center turn lane and collided head-on with the Acura for reasons that are still being looked into.
Both Harvey and Williamson were fatally injured and died at the scene of the crash. Valle was taken to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.
Louisiana State Police indicated that it is currently unclear whether seatbelts were used or if impairment was a factor, but toxicology samples have been collected for testing. The crash is still being looked into by authorities.
State Police said that although not all crashes can be survived, wearing seat belts correctly can greatly enhance the chances of survival and lessen the severity of injuries. It is important to ensure that both you and your passengers are properly buckled up before driving to increase the likelihood of reaching your destination safely. Moreover, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can impair your ability to see, coordinate, and react while on the road. It is essential for drivers to have a plan for a safe ride home before consuming any substances, as impaired judgment can result in risky driving behavior. Remember, if you feel impaired, your driving will be affected. Stay safe on the road by making responsible decisions.
