Vernon Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop E arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 464 at Belton Loop at around 3:08 p.m. on May 23, 2024. Tragically, Jeffrey Cryer, a 39-year-old from Leesville, Louisiana lost his life in the crash.
During the first examination, it was discovered that a 2009 Chevrolet, driven by Cryer, was heading north on Louisiana Highway 464. For reasons that are still being looked into, Cryer’s vehicle veered off the road, went down the ditch embankment, and hit multiple trees.
Cryer, who was wearing a seatbelt, suffered injuries that ultimately led to his death and was declared dead at the scene. Standard samples for toxicology testing were taken and will be examined. The cause of the crash is still being looked into.
The reason for this crash is still being looked into, but distracted driving remains a top reason for crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police is reminding all drivers to remain focused while on the road. Not paying attention while driving can lead to tragic outcomes.
So far in 2024, Troop E Troopers conducted investigations on 23 deadly collisions that led to 25 deaths.
