Zachary, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 61 that claimed the life of a Zachary man Sunday evening.
Shortly before 6 p.m. on December 7, 2025, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A responded to a crash on US 61 at Port Hudson Plains Road. The incident involved a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2017 Ford Transit van.
According to preliminary findings from State Police, 45-year-old Calvin Turner of Zachary was driving the Chevrolet pickup east on Port Hudson Plains Road, approaching a stop sign at the intersection with US 61. At the same time, the Ford Transit was traveling south on US 61.
For reasons that remain under investigation, Turner entered the intersection without yielding at the stop sign and collided with the southbound Ford. Investigators have not yet released additional details on the speed of either vehicle or other contributing factors.
Troopers reported that Turner was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. He sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The driver of the Ford Transit, who was properly restrained, was not injured.
Louisiana State Police stated that impairment is not suspected in this crash. However, as is standard procedure in fatal roadway incidents, routine toxicology samples were collected from the drivers for analysis. Those results will be reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
The crash remains under investigation by Troop A, and no charges or citations have been announced at this time.
