Bastrop, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 425 that left a 6-year-old Texas child dead early Friday morning.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop F, the fatal incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, on U.S. Highway 425 near Louisiana Highway 3051. The crash claimed the life of 6-year-old Harrison Thomas III of Crowley, Texas.
Initial Findings From State Police
Troopers said a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling north on U.S. 425 when the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. The pickup began rotating counterclockwise and then overturned.
Thomas was riding in the front passenger seat and was not restrained, according to investigators. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet, who was also unrestrained, sustained minor injuries.
Impairment Not Suspected, Toxicology Pending
State Police said impairment is not suspected at this stage of the investigation. However, in line with standard procedure for fatal roadway incidents, routine toxicology samples were collected from the driver. Those samples will be submitted for analysis to determine whether any substances were present.
