Ouachita Parish, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F started looking into a deadly crash that occurred on the evening of Monday, April 22, 2024, just before 9:00 p.m. The crash, which took place on LA 841 close to Underwood Road, resulted in the tragic death of 35-year-old Gary Davis from Calhoun, Louisiana.
Initial findings indicated that Davis was driving a 2017 Ram 1500 south on LA 841 when the vehicle veered off the road to the left and collided with a tree. The reasons for this behavior are still being looked into.
Davis, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where he passed away. Authorities indicated that they believe that impairment and high speed were contributing factors in the crash. Samples for routine toxicology tests have been collected and sent for evaluation. The incident is still being investigated.
The Louisiana State Police want to emphasize that driving behavior changes when under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs, or other substances. These substances can have various negative effects on a person’s ability to drive, such as impairing vision, distorting perception of time and space, affecting motor skills, and slowing reaction times. It is important for motorists to plan ahead and choose a designated driver who is sober, as failing to do so can result in fatal consequences.
So far in 2024, Troop F has investigated 12 deadly crashes, which have led to 13 fatalities.
