Louisiana State Police: One Dead in Head-On Crash on LA 1019 in Livingston Parish
Denham Springs, Louisiana - Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2025, on Louisiana Highway 1019 near Amite Church Road in Livingston Parish. The incident claimed the life of 55-year-old John Cason of Denham Springs.
According to the preliminary investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop A, Cason was driving a 2015 Mazda 3 north on LA 1019, south of Amite Church Road. At the same time, a 2017 Nissan Altima was traveling south on the same highway.
For reasons that remain under investigation, troopers say the Mazda crossed the centerline and struck the Nissan head-on. The impact caused severe damage and serious injuries.
Cason, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained severe injuries in the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from those injuries. State Police noted that he was unrestrained at the time of the incident, a factor that can significantly increase the risk of fatal injury in a crash.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, who was properly restrained, suffered moderate injuries. That driver’s identity and specific condition have not been released, and no additional passenger information was provided in the preliminary report.
Investigators said impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash at this time. However, in keeping with standard investigative procedure for fatal incidents, toxicology samples were obtained from the involved drivers and submitted for analysis. Results from those tests are pending.
Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A continue to examine the circumstances of the crash, including roadway conditions, vehicle evidence, and any other contributing factors. No charges have been announced, and no further details have been released as the investigation remains active.
