Thibodaux, Louisiana – A two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 1 at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 3185 has claimed the lives of two individuals. The incident occurred on November 28, 2024, at approximately 9:00 p.m., and is currently under investigation by the Louisiana State Police Troop C.

According to preliminary findings, 19-year-old Trent Truxillo of Houma, Louisiana was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima south on LA Hwy 1 at a high rate of speed. As he approached the intersection of LA Hwy 3185, Truxillo disregarded a red traffic signal and collided with a 2018 Cadillac XTS driven by 44-year-old Johnnie Bennett Jr. of Thibodaux, Louisiana. Bennett Jr. was heading east on LA Hwy 3185.

Both drivers were unrestrained during the crash and sustained fatal injuries. They were pronounced dead at the scene. A front-seat passenger in the Altima, who was properly restrained, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital outside the area.

Louisiana State Police indicated that impairment on the part of Truxillo may have contributed to the crash. Standard toxicology samples were collected from both drivers and have been submitted for analysis.
